Launching Self-Lacing Sneakers and Satisfying Web3 Communities

This week, RTFKT officially announced the launch of Cryptokicks iRL, β€œthe first native Web3 sneaker.” This is a drop of digital sneakers sold as NFTs that can then be redeemed as physical sneakers, with only 19,000 Cryptokicks iRL available. The shoes feature new self-lacing technology that automatically adjusts to a comfortable fit around your feet.

However, the rollout of the shoe featured complications that frustrated members of the RTFKT community. The Cryptokicks iRL release provides us with a lot of lessons.
